Thanks to everyone for making our most recent Fergie's run such a pleasure. Your support is greatly appreciated. It's been quite a month for us. On Saturday, October 20th, we played a train station in Glen Ridge with legendary Texas songwriter, Butch Hancock. Performing "Boxcars", "Already Gone" and "Bluebird" with the man who wrote those songs was ... well ... a dream for all of us.
Be sure to pick up a copy of our new cd, Mesopotamia Blues. We're dying to give you the good word: War is Wrong!
Also check out Butch Hancock's War and Peace CD. Another voice in the wilderness. But one worth hearing.
Reading materials: William Vollman, Europe Central. This is the best book about war that I've seen. It's a work of fiction. Sort of. And it's nominally about WWI and WWII. But it's really about something bigger than specific historical events. It's about power, lust, and money. The big three. The ones that leave us in a constant State of War with each other and OURSELVES! Aw, man, if you can't dig this, just listen to "He's Gone" on Europe '72. Those guys had all that stuff down.
What else: legendary NYC DJ Vin Scelsa recently spun the title track from Meso. Blues on his Sirius Show. Vin has been a long time supporter of John Train. Check out our myspace page to hear a version of Float Away that we played live on Vin's WFUV show a few years back.
Keep an eye on our performance calendar. We're holding down the fort at Ferg's thru October. And then there's October 27th when we share a bill with my all-time hero, Peter Case, at a houseconcert in Moorestown. Mesopotamia Blues is actually dedicated to Peter and Butch. Real heroes.
Come see Peter dust us off the living room floor. He's got a great new album out too called "Let us Now Praise Sleepy John." Estes, that is to say. Not Sleepy John Houlon.
Also: On November 21st (the night before Thanksgiving), we'll be doing a show with Slo-Mo at the Sellersville theater. This is a great venue. Mike and I were lucky enough to open up for Jesse Winchester in Sellersville earlier this year. It'll be great to have the whole band up there for this show. It's worth the trip from Philly (around 30-40 minutes).
Sellersville is a cool little town. Barbershop on the corner, ice cream store down the street, and a couple locals giving you a funny look. We'll take it!
Alright, until then, it's goodnight Irene goodnight Irene, I'll see you in my dreams.
Jon
