Musings on No 2 Unalike (# 6)

No 2 Unalike, Night Three, November 6th, 2015 @ Fergie's Pub Bruce Springsteen's "Racing in the Streets” and my own "Nothing in Store"

I recently caught Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in Washington, DC. It was a special show for me 'cause Bruce played the River in its entirety. This was the first Springsteen album I bought on the day it came out. 1980. I was twelve. And the first time I saw Bruce live was on the original River Tour @ the Capital Center in Landover, Maryland.

My cousin Dave J. introduced me to Bruce sometime in the 70s. Might have been around the time Born to Run came out or maybe it was Darkness. In any case, I am forever grateful to Dave for doing this and, in general, inspiring me to play music. We were delighted to have him join us to sing Bruce's Racing in the Streets as part of No 2 Unalike.

I paired this song with my own song Nothing in Store. God bless Suzanne Penn, who upon first hearing this number, asked me if Townes Van Zandt had written it. What a compliment! I actually had Bruce in mind and Racing in the Streets in particular. Interestingly, Townes did a great version of Racing in the Streets which can be found on his Roadsongs lp. Hmmmm.
